Farm Animal Rescue Visit - 23rd February 2014

Image
Today the kids and I made the 85km hike to Farm Animal Rescue at Dayboro. They are a group of volunteers who help rescue farm animals, like dairy cows, who are about to be sent to slaughter after a long life of producing milk etc. We first visited the pigs. I have never seen a pig this big. It would have easily weighed over 100kgs. We had a pat and watched them sleep in the hay. Next we went to see the chicken who were loving rolling around in the dirt. A lot of them had next to no feathers left due to being battery cage hens, but were now living the life. There were a few goats and we quickly learnt that one of them hated children as he had been a part of children's travelling party circus, so was probably abused and mishandled by a lot of people. We had to have some other adults helped distract or block the kids from its sight if we wanted to move around the place LOL All the visitors sat down and enjoyed a beautiful vegan lunch which consisted mainly of curries...
